Try it for freeDear Dr. Nguyen, Thank you for the care you gave me through my treatment this year. You always explained what was happening in a way I could understand, and you never made me feel rushed, even when your waiting room was full. I finished my last round in March, and I'm back to hiking on weekends. I'm so grateful. With thanks, Paul Simmons

Dear Nurse Kelly, Thank you for taking such good care of my mother during her stay in the ICU. You treated her with dignity and patience, and you always took a moment to update us. It made a frightening week easier to bear. Sincerely, Robert Hayes
Tone: Formal | Note Length: Short | Reason for Thanks: For a nurse who cared for her mother in intensive care.
Doctors and nurses rarely find out how their patients are doing once they leave. A short note telling them how things turned out is often the thanks they value most, and many keep them for years.
Writing a Thank You Note to a Doctor or Nurse with AI
The generator at the top of this page writes a draft in a few seconds. Give it the details that make the note yours:
- Use their name and title as the recipient, such as "Dr. Nguyen" or "Nurse Kelly," or the unit for a whole team, such as "the nurses on the 4th floor."
- Say what the care was in the reason, such as a surgery, a hospital stay, a birth or ongoing treatment.
- Add one thing they did, like explaining a diagnosis clearly or sitting with a frightened relative.
- Keep private details to what you're comfortable with. The note doesn't need your diagnosis to be meaningful.
What to Include
- Who you are: Your full name and roughly when they treated you, since they see many patients. "I was on your ward after my knee surgery in June."
- The specific kindness: Clinical skill matters, but people remember how they were treated. Name it.
- How you're doing now: "I'm walking without a cane" or "Mia is now a healthy, loud six-month-old."
- A warm closing: "With thanks," or "With gratitude," then your name.
Sending It
- Hospital staff: Mail or drop off a card addressed to the nurse or unit by name. Many hospitals also have a form on their website to recognize a nurse or doctor, which can count toward awards.
- A clinic doctor: Bring it to your next appointment or mail it to the practice.
- Gifts: Many hospitals limit what staff can accept. A note, or a treat the whole unit can share, is always welcome.
- Good times to send one: after a discharge or a final appointment, during Nurses Week (May 6 to 12), or on National Doctors' Day (March 30 in the U.S.).
